British Superbike School – Road Training

Come to the trainers who coach the professionals – Test Riders, Journalists, Blood Bike, Police and Fire Bike Riders.

We are now focused away from the tracks and on delivering cutting edge road training. This training is very different from Police Class 1 rider based ‘Advanced Training‘. Recent research for National Highways has found that this traditional training produces no benefits, and also has downsides (Agilisys).

The Coaching

We focus on machine control theory from Cossalter’s ‘Motorcycle Dynamics’, research, testing and feedback from our KurvX datalogging, and experience of over 15 years training riders on and off track.

We are in radio contact at all times, advising of hazards and responses, aiming to become the voice you hear even when we’re no longer there.

We will show you how to significantly beat Highway Code braking distances. How to minimize your reaction times and embed the changes into your riding.

We can show you how to corner at a good speed, but with a good safety margin. How to change line or brake mid corner when you need to in an emergency, staying in control at all times. And how to filter safely when you need to.

We will focus on where conflicts with other road user are likely to occur, how to recognize and deal with them appropriately.

According to DVSA figures, without extra training, it currently takes 24 years for 80% of riders up to 50 years old, to become competent. However, only 50% of riders > 50, most of whom have never been trained, ever achieve it.

Safe, enjoyable road riding relies on recognising the dangers and acquiring the skills to minimize them, never assuming you have been seen,

Professional experienced DVSA licenced trainers assess and provide effective structured personal training. We’re leading, and we hope other training organisations will follow in the interests of rider safety.

We also have experience of training physically impaired riders, and those with adapted machines, who are particularly welcome.

As the Motorcycle Industry Association’s CEO, Tony Campbell, famously said in 2023, “the definition of insanity is doing the same things over and over again, but expecting different results.”

Time for a change?

Ultimate Guide to Emergency Motorcycle Braking

Basic Advice – ‘Four Fingers’. (Please note this differs from official DVSA or Police Motorcycle Roadcraft advice – if in doubt refer to ‘Riding – The Essential Skills’ and follow that advice). Consider riding with your foot over the rear brake pedal and two fingers resting on the front brake lever whenever you can. This … Continue reading Ultimate Guide to Emergency Motorcycle Braking

Review of new Road Safety Strategy – regarding motorcycles.

Good to see data analytics being promoted, and the establishment of a new Road Safety Investigation Branch, who hopefully will be looking at ‘black box’ data. Great to see training and testing being reviewed. Hopefully emergency braking from 60 mph will be included. According to DVSA figures it currently takes 24 years for 80% of … Continue reading Review of new Road Safety Strategy – regarding motorcycles.
